Welcome to Surrey Downs Kindergarten and Occasional Care

Surrey Downs Kindergarten oval

Surrey Downs Kindergarten and Occasional Care is a small community kindergarten that offers care and education for birth to five year olds. The grounds have just been upgraded and there is a large natural outdoor area.

Surrey Downs Kindergarten is situated in the suburb of Surrey Downs close to the Surrey Downs shopping centre. It is easily accessible by bus 543 and 543X that travels along Illyarrie Avenue. The Occasional Care service is held in the Community Centre behind the Kindergarten and accessed off of Zanoni Crescent.

Surrey Downs Kindergarten is next door to the Surrey Downs Community Child Care Centre and children are walked to and fro by staff enabling easy access to before and after session care if needed.

We are within walking distance of Surrey Downs R-7 Primary School and visits are made regularly to the Library, or other shared activities.

The Surrey Downs Community Children's Village is a partnership of the above facilities plus Family Day Care and the Community Centre. It has the core purpose of raising community awareness of neighbouring services, each supporting one another collaboratively and co-operatively with short and long term goals.

Our Philosophy:technology at Surrey Downs Kindergarten

At Surrey Downs Kindergarten and Occasional Care we believe that all children can be successful learners and the most powerful way young children learn is through play. Play is active & interactive and within it children develop relationships, communicate, experiment, imagine, create, problem solve, role play, practice and learn together, as they explore familiar & new experiences around them in a safe environment.

Our educators are committed to ongoing learning and reflective practice and we encourage all children to be active, engaged learners, inquisitive thinkers and support them as they learn respect & to collaborate with others.

We believe that building trusting & respectful relationships with children, their families and the community underpins all that we do , and that educators are partners with parents in their child’s learning.

Our vision is to build a larger community education service where families feel valued and children achieve success in all areas of their learning.

The kindergarten program is based on the National Early Years Learning Framework, Being, Belonging and Becoming and covers Learning Areas of

Occasional Care

As the name suggests, Occasional care suits those times when you have an appointment, a meeting, go to the gym, need to do some shopping on your own, need time out, or your child needs to play with some other children.

Children three months to five years of age are welcome for one session per week on a regular or irregular basis.

Occasional care is located in the Community Centre building adjacent to the kindergarten at 6 Zononi Crescent and is under the management of the kindergarten. Two trained staff members work with kindy staff to provide fun, safe and challenging programs for the children.
